Cottagecore

The Cornish Bed Company taps into the Cottagecore trend with its handcast iron and brass beds...
Cottagecore

The rise of comfy, cosy, countryside aesthetic in interior styling

From baking your own sourdough and growing vegetables to taking up craft projects such as quilting and knitting, the trend for embracing a simpler, back-to-nature lifestyle has been on the rise for several years – before coming properly to the fore during the pandemic as people spent more time at home.

Known as cottagecore, in interiors this translates to a traditional English country aesthetic, combining a pared-back colour palette with warm tones and contemporary floral prints. A nod to nostalgia and romance is key – which is where The Cornish Bed Company comes in. Here are five pieces of furniture, each perfect for the cottagecore look.

Cottagecore - Home Design Aesthetic Spotlighting Calming Combination Of Tones and Patterns

1. The Clifton Cast Iron bed; 2. The Somerset Four Poster bed.

The Clifton Bed

A true classic that typifies the iron and brass bed era, opulent Clifton features ornate brass details, regal arches and decorative floral fixings on its frame. As with all Cornish Bed Company creations, there are nine colour options to choose from (including the new, grown-up racing green, pictured here), plus a wide range of bespoke shades that can be matched to a Pantone reference or other items in the bedroom. A wow-factor statement piece.

The Somerset Four Poster

With its bold lines and crisp angles, the Somerset Four Poster is timeless. Yet choose a powder coated colour – such as Plaster, a new shade, pictured here - and it instantly feels more Cottagecore contemporary. Each bed is made to order, numbered, cast using time-honoured skills, and signed off by one of the company’s talented craftsmen. A modern take on an age-old design.

3. The Fowey bench; 4. The Victoria Brass bed; 5. The Hampton Cast Iron bed.

The Fowey Bench

Stylish and elegant yet also brilliantly practical (whether for sitting on to get dressed in the morning, or place unwanted cushions and throws on at night), the Fowey Bench is a great addition to any bedroom (pictured here with the Hampton bed).

Made using traditional Victorian handcrafting techniques, it is topped with a Naturalmat cushion of breathable and natural materials (including coconut coir and a layer of organic lambswool). This is upholstered in a bespoke range of fabrics from Romo, a British company renowned for its patterns.

The Brass Victoria

The Brass Victoria bedstead is simple and slimline in design. It is traditional in style, yet showcases more subtle castings for those who love the beauty of a brass bed, but seek a more understated version. A slightly curved top rail adds a hint of femininity and elegance.

The Hampton

The Hampton bedstead, shown here with the Fowey bench, is a timeless piece with bold lines and crisp angles. Showcasing a slightly curved top rail with an ornate centre brass spacer, which offers just enough detail to make this a classically designed piece.
